The Master Formula
☀️ Sun + 🌙 Moon – 1 = ✨ Yoga
Therefore: Sun = Yoga – Moon + 1
Example 1: Standard Calculation
🌙 Moon (Vishakha) #16
🔗 Yoga (Sadhya) #22
Sun = 22 – 16 + 1 = 7
Result: Sun is in the 7th Nakshatra (Punarvasu).
Example 2: Another Case
🌙 Moon (P.Bhadra) #25
🔗 Yoga (Vaidhriti) #27
Sun = 27 – 25 + 1 = 3
Result: Sun is in the 3rd Nakshatra (Krittika).
⚠️ Special Case: Negative Result

If the Yoga Number is smaller than the Moon Number, the result will be negative.

🌙 Moon (Revati) #27
🔗 Yoga (Vajra) #15
Sun = 15 – 27 + 1 = -11
Correction Rule: Subtract the negative result from 26.
26 – 11 = 15
Result: Sun is in the 15th Nakshatra (Swati).
💡 Expert Tip: If the Sun or Moon lands in the Nakshatra of Ketu, Venus, Moon, Rahu, Saturn, or Mercury, then we straight away know the rashi in which the Sun or the moon is placed and can draw a Rashi chart forthe Sun and the moon. You can instantly find more about signs here Rashi (Zodiac Sign). However, for Sun, Mars, or Jupiter Nakshatras, further calculation (via Tithi/Karana) is needed.
